Understanding Your New Espresso Machine

 In Articles, Introduction to Espresso

If maintained regularly and cleaned daily your machine will give you many years service. Below is a summary of the process you will undertake every time you make an espresso.

BOILER(1) – The boiler contains hot water and steam. To ensure It does not alter its characteristics with time, it is manufactured in copper. Espresso machines manufactured by La Marzocco have two boilers, one providing hot water and one providing steam.

GROUP HEAD (2) AND HEAT EXCHANGER (3) – The group head is the part of the machine where the group handle (which contains the filter and the ground coffee) is connected.

The coffee infusion and delivery is obtained by forcing water through the filter. There is a heat exchanger fitted to each group, it is immersed in the boiler water and permits the fresh mains water to reach the optimum temperature in a short time, avoiding thermal unbalances in the system.
