Mulmar celebrates 25 years servicing the coffee industry in collaboration with the Heritage Hub

Mulmar is a Hatfield based company, specialising in the provision and servicing of coffee equipment.

Over the years, they have built an impressive portfolio working with several large brands as well as a host of independent companies.

Setting the scene

The University of Hertfordshire’s relationship with Mulmar started when Professor Jonathan Morris in the School of Humanities interviewed the company’s founders as part of a research funded project, ‘The Cappuccino Conquests’ tracing the global history of Italian-style coffee.

Agostino Luggeri, the Managing Director of Mulmar, attended an event on the theme of ‘Heritage for Business’, organised by Dr Alix Green, Deputy Chair of the Heritage Hub.

After Agostino attended the event he got in touch with the Heritage Hub, and together they developed the concept of short film to mark the company’s 25th anniversary. Helen Tyler, a Research Assistant at the Hub, worked through the Mulmar archive, scanning relevant images, and Prof Morris and Dr Green helped develop the storyboard for the video. The film ‘premiered’ at the London Coffee Festival.

As part of this project, graphic design students were also tasked as part of their curriculum to create a logo to celebrate Mulmars’ 25 years in service. Second year student, Olawale Osunla’s winning animation appears at the end of the video and his design features on promotional merchandise and marketing collateral.

What were the results?

The production of a video showcasing Mulmar’s heritage and values.

Olawale Osunla was awarded a £250 cash prize, courtesy of Mulmar and has a successful project to add to his portfolio for the future.

The London Coffee Festival was attended by 22,000 visitors and the Mulmar crew modelled the winning logo on their uniform.
